2007 NASA Honor Awards Ceremony at JSC
"The JSC community is invited to attend the 2007 NASA Honor Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. in the Teague Auditorium. This annual ceremony recognizes distinguished individuals and groups from across JSC and the surrounding area for their outstanding contributions to the Nation's space program."

Nowak [NASA Space Flight Medal (flight crew members) An award given for significant achievement or service during individual participation as a civilian or military astronaut, pilot, mission specialist, payload specialist, or other space flight participant in a space flight mission.]"

I believe that Lisa Nowak received her Space Flight Medal back in August and today's ceremony is just an acknowledgement of the fact. Here's a picture showing her receiving her award. http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/jscfeatures/photos/121crewdebrief/jsc2006e35246.jpg Nevertheless, I still think that they don't need to acknowledgement her.
It is completely inappropriate for Lisa Nowak to be awarded anything by NASA. Her conduct with regard to Capt. Shipley was unbecoming of our nation's space explorers.
I don't think it's wrong for NASA to give a Nowak a medal. I think it's probably way too soon to honor Nowak with an award, given that she is an astronaut who's been recently charged with various crimes and was "fired". I don't think that should remove her from consideration of a medal in the future, after all her legal troubles have died down. Despite her obvious mishaps, she did manage to fly on a shuttle mission, so if NASA gives such awards to astronauts that have flown, then she qualifies on that. I don't know all the specifics of qualifying for this award, but if people question it, maybe these awards should be given only for truly significant, first of a kind flight achievements. In any case, tt would be better PR if NASA waited till her news faded away.
Keith, Why in the heck would NASA give a medal to an astronaut they "fired?" This is totally baffling! As to "Ms. Ivins," I guess if you kiss enough rear ends at NASA, you can get a medal and run over whomever you want. Mike Griffin continues to surround himself with the worst at NASA.
