Learning Lessons Learned

Advice from NASA's Wayne Hale: Leading Your Leaders

"When I was a new NASA employee, my branch chief put together a training class that has been on my mind recently. Among the other things he taught us new employees was that we had to lead our leaders. That has always been good advice. I'd like to share some of those thoughts and expand on them."

I don't think Mr. Hale gives himself and other leaders enough credit for being smart about the system, as described by Dr. Griffin here:

Nice to see our content being used and distributed! That release was taken from our NASA ASK Magazine article, published in February this year: Leading Your Leaders. A PDF of the article can be downloaded from there as well.

Looks like NASA problems are the fault of those darn working level people again! Now NASA needs to publish an article from a worker entitled, "Listening for Leaders" or... "Communication is a two way street!"

I would disagree with Mr. Hale. Many of the upper managers and middle managers at MSFC are the smartest people on the planet. If you don't think so, just ask them.

I think it would be interesting for Wayne hang out at Marshall for a while and just observe. I wonder whether he would find it humorous or sad
