The so-so space debate: initial impressions, Space politics
"Half of the four people on the panel were able to talk about space policy quite well: Lori Garver, representing Clinton, was well-versed in the issues, not surprising; O’Brien has also done his homework, based on the questions he asked on topics beyond NASA’s budget and the future of the vision, ranging from commercialization to military space policy to export control."

It has been, at times, mindboggling how little the candidates have paid attention to space, science and technology related issues during this campaign. While this may be frustrating to many in the community, it is imperative that everyone make the effort to keep relevant topics front and center: via e-mails to candidates, questions at open forums, blog comments, etc. The more these issues are raised, the more the candidates will be forced to educate themselves and state positions. Don't wait for everyone else to do the heavy lifting - get involved! To quote Margaret Mead: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
