Update Setback

Editor's note: We had some serious issues (i.e. yesterday's black out offline NASA Watch) with our new upgrade so we've reverted back to the old format for a bit before trying again. Your feedback on old Vs new versions is being listened to as well. Stay tuned for NASA Watch 3.1. We are looking at a format that is much closer to the current (old) one. We'll also be adding some of the new features as well. Meanwhile, comments are enabled, so comment away!

I actually prefer the old layout. The new NASA Watch looks very nice, and definitely more modern, but I like the single main column format of the old layout. It's easier (for me) to just scroll down one page and read the posts that interest me, rather than clicking on different sections of the website to find the posts that are interesting to me.

Keith,

The 3.0 version was nice, but I wasn't sure what the difference was between the left-most column and the center column. The right column seemed to be nav-bar and other non-news stuff as well as category lists, calendars, etc.

Could the left column be the current news topics and the center column "customizable" so, for example, it could show all "space commerce" items?

Also, as I mentioned in a previous tweet, the categories for the commercial items might include "New Markets" in lieu of "Space Tourism" (the latter being a specific instance of the more generic former) and differentiate between "commercialization" (which means whatever you define it to mean... NASA has its own definition) and "commercialism" (or some other term to mean what I refer to as "commercial development")...

Just my two cents... it'll be great once the gremlins are all worked out!

Keith - for what it's worth, I agree with Judy L. regarding the single column layout. While the new site was up, I opted for the RSS feed version instead of the new layout because it was easier to read. I did like the updated and polished look of the new site. The new site was also much more blackberry friendly because the wordpress theme and CSS degraded better in the blackberry browser.

I prefer the "old" format..It didn't seem to be broken, so no need to fix it. Regardless, keep up the good work.

I find the old format easier to scan for new stories and updates. In the new version, I was looking all over the place.

I'll be the dissenter here: I think the old layout is extremely cluttered, dated and not particularly aesthetically pleasing. I found the new layout to be much easier to read; it's much better organized, less cluttered and has the same design elements as other blogs so it is "familiar" to get around. I also like having posts tagged/categorized rather than just a FIFO list. There is a reason that the typical wordpress blog layouts are so popular: they work! I hope you get the problems fixed and get back to it soon.

The couple of times I saw the new layout, I thought it was a bad joke. Hard to find things, cluttered in appearance. To be blunt, I thought it stunk. The old layout (NASAwatch Classic?) was better.

I like the "old" layout much better.
Lots of clutter - too busy.

I READ NASA WATCH MOST EVERY DAY. I REALLY LIKE THE OLD FORMAT. I REALLY DO NOT LIKE THE NEW FORMAT.
