Today's Video: Shuttle Launch (?) From Air Canada
Editor's note: This video of a Space Shuttle launch was taken recently from an Air Canada flight. The video was posted on 24 July 2008. It is not clear when it was shot. Perhaps it is STS-124? Oh yes, the guy with the camera was clearly impressed with what he was seeing.
Reader update: "This is the launch of a Delta 2, most likely GPS 2R-18 on December 20th. The YouTube original was posted "seven months ago" according to the tag. You can see the first set of SRBs burn out and the other ignite at 55 seconds into the video."

This is an amazing video. It makes me want to book a flight to Miami. I am a bit surprised that a commercial aeroplane was allowed to get so close to a launch, but I imagine that the Delta 2 is a lot further away than it looks.

Keith check you facts before posting, this is why you are not as informed as real reporters and why this site is read with a large grain of salt. This is just like the 'abandoned trailer at JPL" article, check you facts.
Editor's note: hello "You". Perhaps YOU should check your facts before posting .... Let's see: I post corrections as fast as I get them from my readers (the "shuttle" video) and leave my error out there for all the world to see. How many websites do that these days?
And YOU are in error (checking your facts would help): the JPL trailer post was not mine at all - but rather one at another (much more popular) website - gizmodo.com. My posting expressed extreme skepticism about it being "abandoned" as the original posting on Gizmodo claimed - but I guess you never read that, eh?
Due to the efforts of NASA Watch readers the identity of that trailer was revealed and the readers on that other site had an errant posting corrected.
"Due to the efforts of NASA Watch readers the identity of that trailer was revealed and the readers on that other site had an errant posting corrected."
This seems to always be the case at NASA watch, again check your facts. Just because it is on the internet does not mean it is true
Editor's Note: Yawn. Now your name is "John". If NASA Watch is such an irritant, why do you bother to read it? And why can't you check YOUR facts?

There are indeed times when you probably *do* deserve a good kicking, but neither this posting nor the 'lost trailer' are in any respect deserving of any criticism. Your role was merely to inform, and then - in a praiseworthy manner - to distribute the information which led to the identification of the facts. I really can't see any fault there at all! You certainly helped the truth to find it's way out into the light of day, and indeed killed off a destructive urban legend or two.
Lest I be accused of any form of brown-nosing, I must say I really don't like your (ahem) enthusiasm for NASA ninth floor gossip, nor do I enjoy the rather huffy articles which slip through your self-censor, but I'm prepared to take the rough with the smooth.
Anyway, somebody who likes cats and Macs can't be all bad!
