New WiFi System on ISS

NASA ISS On-Orbit Status 6 September 2008

"After transitioning the JSL (Joint Station LAN) network to the new Netgear wireless APs (Access Points, WAPs) which provide the ISS with WiFi (wireless+Ethernet) connectivity, Gregory today repeated functionality tests, abandoned earlier this week, in three Kibo JPM (JEM Pressurized Module) locations from the wireless SSC -11 laptop, and later also in the COL (Columbus Orbital Laboratory). Afterwards switching to "Proxim" APs, the new WiFi "Dolphin" BCRs (Barcode Readers) were also tested."

That's awesome there's now wifi in space -- that's almost better than this old wifi joke:

Q: How many wifi enthusiasts does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A: Punchline Here!

Sincere congratulations to the whole team on this great success!

I wonder how long til someone manages to get a signal using a giant pringles can.

I hope WEP is enabled!

Thats freedom to browse the net in mid air!
Well, in the middle of space also, during an EVA :) I think the walls of the ISS are not that tick

Is this one of the scientific breakthroughs that Ronald Reagan told us we would get from the station?

It is utterly ridiculous that many of you hail this as a great success!!

The station is a money sinkhole in space where astronauts and paying russian customers go to play.
