NASA Welcomes Airship Ventures Zeppelin To Moffett Field

"News media are invited to view the newest addition to Moffett Field - the first airship to fly over the U.S. for more than 70 years - on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008. This 246-foot-long Zeppelin, 50 feet longer than the Goodyear blimp, is capable of carrying up to 12 passengers and will be available for aerial tours of the San Francisco Bay Area."

"the first airship to fly over the U.S. for more than 70 years" - Untrue

Blimps continue to fly all over the U.S. all the time (Goodyear, MetLife, Fuji, etc.) Maybe the writer meant to say "dirigible"; but I'm not sure even that is true!

Who fact-checks these press releases?

"Dirigible" means "steerable," so a blimp is also a dirigible. Zeppelin is a brand name (manufactured by Luftschiff Zeppelin), sort of like calling all colas "Coke." I think Americans started using it that way because one of the LZs was named the Graf Zeppelin, after the company's founder, Graf (Count in German) Ferdinand von Zeppelin. It's a "rigid dirigible airship." Hardly the stuff of soundbites!

whatever it is, it is extremely enjoyable to fly with.
Its back seat with the panoramic window in the quiet cabin is one of the best places you'll ever have in a flying vehicle.

Looks like ARC is getting quite a collection of German Aircraft.

Let's hope the Goolgle boys' Alpha Jet does not drill a hole through the lighter than air ship.
