"The first French woman in space has been hospitalized after she tried to take her own life, according to published reports. Claudie Haignere, 51, was hospitalized late yesterday after she tried to commit suicide, an unidentified French government source told Agence France-Presse. Another source told AFP that Haignere overdosed on pills."
This is truly sad!! A talented, accomplished and beautiful lady -- I hope Dr Haignere makes a FULL recovery and then some. It seems that all her virtues were NOT a barrier to depression or a similar mental condition. And of course, we've seen this before in other space travellers. I fully sympathise with her plight, having had to deal with very similar situations in my own family, more than once. All the best to Dr Haignere and her family and may 2009 be a much better year for her.
I spoke to Claudie Haignere on-orbit, and have met her many times since. Whatever she now faces, I hope she will understand that we in Europe deeply value everything she has done for us in space and on Earth. There is simply no spacefarer who has contributed more in her lifetime to human advancement in the two fields of astronautics and politics. Our US friends are entitled to mention John Glenn, and Russians can mention Valentina, but Claudie is our hero!
Can someone tell me how is Claudie today? My question is because i can't find any news about her.
So please how is her health?
I'd like to hear more about the rumor that her lab burned down the same day. Apparently a biology lab at the Pasteur Institute in Paris burned up Wednesday, and rumor is, it was hers. Also told she had to be restrained at the hospital. Anyone with more info? Don't want to turn this into a rumor mill, but Astronauts are the most physically and psychologically tested and stable people on earth - a suicide attempt coupled with the possible destruction of her research is very fishy to me.
I agree Redstone. If this news regarding her lab are indeed true. There have been so many movies that I think people forget things like that are not just fantasy.
Good people do sometimes get hurt for not doing the right thing with certain information. There is something large, a cosmic scale if you know what I mean on the horizon. 3 years out I'd say. Sun activity, pole shift, gravitation field, not sure.
Maybe she saw something like other astronauts have said they have or know of those in "the know" who have told them humans are not the only intelligent beings who are around.
