More Stunning Imagery - A Backlit Space Station

"Backdropped by the blackness of space and the thin line of Earth's atmosphere, the International Space Station is seen from Space Shuttle Discovery as the two spacecraft begin their relative separation.

Earlier the STS-119 and Expedition 18 crews concluded 9 days, 20 hours and 10 minutes of cooperative work onboard the shuttle and station. Undocking of the two spacecraft occurred at 2:53 p.m. (CDT) on March 25, 2009."

Here's one thing I know about you, KC: you are SUCH a geek. Like me. And a lot of the other wackos who hang out here…thanks for the great work.

It's remarkable to see some of the great computer-generated artwork that NASA's distributed over the years finally materialize in reality.

Last week's photo from STS-119 brings to mind this old ISS sunset piece: http://www.windows.ucar.edu/headline_universe/images/iss_sunset_big.jpg.

Truly. Amazing. Sight. :)

In the immortal words of Keanu Reeves, "whoa!"

"Last week's photo from STS-119 brings to mind this old ISS sunset piece: http://www.windows.ucar.edu/headline_universe/images/iss_sunset_big.jpg"

I was also thinking of that image when I saw this photo. So sweet when something grand becomes reality... :)

New desktop wallpaper for me! (and for a few coworkers to whom I forwarded this article as well)

Does anyone know who took the pic? The SpaceRef article doesn't say. Many thanks for flagging this. I merely echo the sentiments of John Kavanagh with the addition of one or two paint based paintings of Robert McCall ...amongst many others.
