Texas delegation wants stimulus money for NASA, Houston Chronicle
"Texas' top lawmakers in Congress want President Barack Obama to pony up some of the $787 billion in economic stimulus money to rescue NASA's manned space program and ensure that astronauts one day will travel beyond the orbiting international space station. Twenty-eight Republican and Democratic members of Texas' 34-member delegation, led by Republican Sens. John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison, delivered their appeal by letter on Monday, days before Obama is expected to hear a White House panel of experts recommend greater spending."
Texas lawmakers to Obama: Divert some stimulus funds to NASA, The Hill
"Whether they obtain that money, however, is another story. The recovery act granted NASA about $420 million in additional funds, only about $27 million of which has been paid out, according to the White House. That's a far cry from $3 billion, but it remains to be seen whether that much money will even be left over once the federal government finishes paying out -- and federal agencies and states finish spending -- their allocations."

Yearmmm... The problem is, despite what was said, space businesses aren't "shovel ready", they just can't spend money on a whim. One has to have preparations of invitations to tenders, bids, evaluations, etc...
So it would probably take 3 or 4 months just to decide what and who to spend the money on, by which time all the motorways and schools have hoovered it up :-)
