Keith's note: More on Stu Nozette from NSS Blog Editor Karen Cramer Shea (on her own blog here and here) who is clearly still confused and firmly seated on the train to Crazy Town. I would certainly hope that the NSS can do better than this in selecting an editor for their blog.
Fall of a tragic hero, the earlier (original) NSS blog posting to which I responded.

Seems like Stu's fall, in the context of his having apparently mis billed the government for lengthy periods, is more an instance of Hanna Arendt's insight into the banality of evil rather than some Shakespearian mirage. The Stu I knew at HQ for a year was no sociopath although he took great delight in being the smartest person in the room. He laughed and chuckled with real affect. His willingness to betray the country for so little and to do so when he had to know the government had him in their sights suggests depression, obsession with money for some reason that will eventually come out, a shattered self confidence, and intense denial. All too human - all too banal.
