New Year's Eve in Space, Slate
"Last week a Russian spacecraft ferried three astronauts to the International Space Station to join the two who had been manning it since October. The crew took Christmas Day off to share meals together. What about celebrating New Year's--how do you pick the right moment when you're hurtling through time zones at 17,500 miles per hour?"

If they really wanted to put away a lot of vodka, they could have celebrated New Years about sixteen times as they flew through local midnight in different time zones over 24 hours.
You could do even better with a Mach 2 transport. Over 24 hours you could fly to each time zone in succession and celebrate with the locals, assuming good places to land.
If you don't happen to have a Mach 2 transport, but do have very good cold tolerance, you could simply walk or roll your chair from time zone to time zone in a circle around the North or South pole over 24 hours.
