Keith's note: The NASA IPP NASA Commercial Space Initiatives Team Meeting is meeting on 9 Feb. Who knew? No Federal Register notice, no mention on the NASA IPP home page - no mention anywhere at NASA.gov. You would think that with all of the recent emphasis on commercial space in the new Obama space policy that NASA would want these events to be widely known and heavily attended. Guess not.
Stealth NASA Space Commerce Meeting
Considering that many of the managers at the center and even the NASA administrator admit to being blindsided by the new 'plan', is it any surprise that this meeting has not been be showcased as part of the rollout? I think it should be fairly obvious that this new refocus was (and still is) a surprise to the organizers of this meeting.
I KNOW that I am not the only one who suspects that this 'plan' was cooked up in the confines of the Oval Office with little technical input. Likewise, few communications filtered out prior to its announcement.
We're off the map for now, that's for sure.
Actually, I saw the agenda for this meeting over the weekend posted on:

It was news to me too.

Keith would you a agree that NASA has been less than open and transparent in the decisions that were made? For a President who ran on a platform of open government and transparency, the dealings at NASA does not fit in with that message. What is even more discouraging is the relatively paucity of any statements directly from President Obama concerning the new proposal for NASA.
