Should we worry that an OMB person is taking over?

No reason to worry. The OMB has always been a friend of NASA. Oh wait...I was thinking of some other agency.

David Radzanowski is currently Deputy Associate Administrator for Program Integration for NASA's Space Operations Mission Directorate. He is responsible for a variety of cross-cutting program functions, such as monitoring and analysis of Space Operations program technical, schedule and cost performance and reporting to Agency Councils on these matters. His office manages Transition and Retirement of the Space Shuttle, which entails transition of hardware, facilities and workforce from the Space Shuttle Program to the Constellation Program or disposition if not required by Constellation. His office also has responsibility for the Crew Health and Safety function, and manages information technology, human resources, directives management, and correspondence control for Space Operations.

OMB has been running NASA for a while.

If it's true that Mr. Bolden is using this position go line his pockets then congress should intervene. Given the contentious relationship between Mr. Bolden and Congress, I would be surprised that this allegation, if it had any substantiation, would not have been brought to light already. Sounds pretty far-fetched but maybe we're early in the uncovering of this story. At least it wouldn't cost the taxpayers very much since the President's plan would decimate the astronaut corps.

Consider the damage being an astronaut could do to the next generation, before you leap to conclusions without due consideration.

If we can get away from the silly speculation about astronaut health care and how many people will be able to use it...

Every American who is committed to an open frontier in space should give thanks to George Whitesides for performing a truly thankless task over the past 16 months. George is a passionately committed visionary who will make many more contributions inside and outside of government in decades to come.

And Dave Radzanowski is not an "OMB person", he's a long-time space professional who knows how Congress and the Executive Office of the President work, as well as NASA. He will help Charlie and Lori help NASA move forward to a better, more sustainable future. Including NASA personnel flying beyond Earth orbit. Sooner than the skeptics might guess.

Well 8 years at OMB to me is a long time and makes him an OMB person. He was at OMB twice as long as he's been at NASA.

Editor's note: this is really bordering on stupid. You do not even know Dave, do you? You've never met him, have you? I have. And yet based on zero knowledge, you make your comments about his allegiances - and do so anonymously. In addition to his stint at OMB, Dave also worked at CRS and at NASA. Perhaps things are different in your situation, but most adults have had more than one job in their lives. Here in Washington, having a background like Dave's - especially like his - makes him quite a valued resource. Indeed, if there was any portion of his background to label him as - it would be his days at CRS working with Marcia Smith. Together they assembled some of the most level headed, politically agnostic, insightful analyses ever done of America's space program. Think about this for a bit - if he is so knowledgeable about OMB, then he'd be the perfect person to have at NASA to figure out how to thwart some of the goofiness that OMB has been known to try throwing back at NASA, yes? Think before you post next time.

I'm just going by the facts of his history that in my opinion, his 8 years of OMB experience compared with 4 years of NASA experience (according to what I've seen on the web) makes him an OMB person. If these numbers are incorrect, please let us know how many years he did work at OMB and NASA. I never said it was bad or good that he was an OMB person, but his history would indicate that he is more OMB than NASA.

It has been long known that OMB appears to be running NASA, and not for NASA's good. Perhaps he will help NASA persuade OMB to fund it appropriately. Time will tell.

This continues the propensity for name calling and labeling of people in order to impune their motives that is a hallmark of today's public discourse. It's a miracle to me that under these conditions you can get high quality people like George and Dave to serve in public offices.

It is disappointing to hear that Dr. Winterton is being moved from her position as AA at NASA Education. Over the past 3 1/2 years she has provided outstanding leadership and improved program delivery for NASA Education programs. I do not understand why a successful SES Career Official, like Dr. Winterton, is being moved from headquarters at this time. She brings a unique mix of experience as an educator, government official and private sector/non profit sector leader that will be difficult to replace. I would think that the continuity of effective leadership and continued program delivery improvement that she has provided in the position would be important as NASA moves forward.
