Shuttle Era Extended to early 2011, Ken Kremer

"The Era of NASA's Space Shuttle Program will be extended by a few more months into early 2011, slightly staving off the retirement that had long been scheduled to occur by the end of 2010. Space Shuttle Program managers have submitted a formal new "change request" to move the launch target dates of the final two shuttle flights, STS 133 and STS 134. These next, and so far last, shuttle flights had been scheduled to lift off on Sept. 16 with Discovery and in late November 2010 with Endeavour and will now be retargeted to late October 2010 and late February 2011 respectively."

Assembly of last in line ET LWT 138 was completed today at MAF. It is scheduled to be shipped to KSC next week.
ET LWT 122 (Damaged by Hurricane Katrina)is still undergoing retro fit and scheduled to be completed in September.

Why on earth would we do this? If the shuttle program is to end, let it end so we can move on. There is nothing at all to be gained by postponing this a few extra months.

I need to correct ET 138 ship date to July 8th.
We are going to (celebrate?)it's departure
New Orleans style, with a brass band and 2nd line (parade)from building 420 to the transport barge.
I think a Jazz funeral is more of the mood of the employees. This huge facility has turned into a ghost town. I hate to get political but our politicians our invited to this event and get to see Louisiana 2nd largest private employer going out of business. Should be no biggie after turning their backs on the largest private employer GMC in Shreveport scheduled to go out of business next year.

Biggio, keep your heads up and walk that walk proud! I was born in the 9th Ward, and as a NOLA native the sight of your assembly building on Anton Michoud's old plantation always gave me goosebumps thinking of what was being built inside. Not only will history treat you kindly, the day will come again when great ships bound for space will gather in your facility.
God Bless the workers in the "Golden Crescent"!
