NASA Watch

21 March 2001: Editor's note: The following comes from a memo sent from the JSC Legal Office to various Space Station Program Offices at JSC. NASA Watch has found a link at http://www.race.ru/forum2001 for the "International Space Forum - 2001: "the Mankind through peaceful space into the future" (and an email contact at 2001@race.ru) but this website doesn't seem to be working all that well.

"No one from NASA may attend or participate in any way whatsoever the conference that will take place in Moscow on April 11-14. This conference may be referred to in at least four different ways, so we need to make sure everyone understands what we're talking about. Here are the four different titles that I know of that are being used to refer to this conference:

  1. International Space Forum - 2001, or 2001 International Space Forum

  2. Conference Devoted to the 40th Anniversary of the First Manned Space Flight

  3. International Conference on Mankind Through Peaceful Space Into the Future

  4. International Conference on the Prevention of the Militarization of Outer Space This conference is being hosted by Rosaviakosmos and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The restriction against NASA participation comes directly from Mr. Goldin."
