From: BROWN, BOBBY G. (BOB) (JSC-MS) Sent: Wednesday, November 25, 1998 To: lots.of.folks@jsc.nasa.gov Subject: Another Shuttle-Mir mission?? Importance: High Hi Guys, George Sandars just called with an opportunity for us. The Russians have asked about the possibility of flying one more Shuttle mission to Mir with the objective of bringing back the docking module (you remember that DM thing we took up on STS-74 with no intention whatsoever of ever seeing it on this earth again) loaded with TBD lbs of Russians items. We need to pull together a quick 100,000 ft level assessment of whether there are any showstoppers to doing this. Notice I'm talking showstoppers, not holy cow there's alot of work to do. Among the many questions: docking module weight/cg/configutation?, APAS configurations?, Orbiter configuration? and on and on and on. We need to have the assessment done by Monday (11/30) to provide to GWS. Sorry for the short fuse but apparently there is a Goldin-Koptev meeting sometime next week and Goldin needs an answer by then. Please provide all inputs to me as quickly as you can and please cc a copy to Sue Sheffield. Sue, I believe George has already called you so you've probably already started looking at this. I'd like you to collect all the inputs from the guys so we will have a central point from which to put together a consolidated story.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.
